Abstract

SILVA, Juliana Oliveira  and  GOMES, Rafael da Silveira. Work precarization and mental health of nursing assistants and technicians in a public hospital in Grande Vitória-ES during the covid-19 pandemic. Cad. psicol. soc. trab. [online]. 2024, vol.27, e212317.  Epub Mar 21, 2025. ISSN 1516-3717.  https://doi.org/10.11606/issn.1981-0490.cpst.2024.212317.

The present study had the objective of analyzing the relationships between work and mental health of nursing assistants and technicians in the context of the covid-19 pandemic. The data were generated through individual interviews and, from the perspective of Work Psychodynamics, analyzed using the Sense Core Analysis technique. Discussions were held regarding workers’ confrontation with the reality of work - characterized by intensified pace, unpredictability, and emotional and cognitive demands - and the potential effects of this experience on the dynamics of subjective processes. It was observed that the precariousness of work contributed to the weakening of healthcare services and to the increase in work-related mental distress. However, the strategies used by workers to deal with this context seem to have contributed to minimizing possible harmful effects on mental health, despite the challenges posed by the health crisis.
