For the time being, there is on the person who is overweight the question of uneasiness. That body is related to an own social imaginary that when it appears on the media reflects a body full of prejudices, discriminations and stigmatizations, because it is much the same as a pejorative and a moral failure who breaks the social norms established and becomes a negative esthetic paradigm, what is more, an excessive body, unhealthy and not desirable, in this day and age. On the other hand, the slim body, which means healthy and beauty, is valuable and desirable and it is comparable to happiness and is essential for the subject to be social accepted. About this issue, we have analyzed the construction of social representations and senses about being overweight through news on daily newspapers and weekly magazines, from 1995 to 2003. We have worked with media because it is such a vehicle of information as reproductor of a discursive practical, thus ideological, socializing facts and norms, acting as an organized agent of the social space, becoming the essential part to consolidate those social representations, taking the role of an adjuster collective of the constitutions of a specific identity and subjectivity.
