SOUZA, DANIEL CERDEIRA DE et al. Sexuality and people living with disabilities: integrative literature review. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2024, vol.24, e23832. Epub Aug 23, 2024. ISSN 2175-1390. https://doi.org/10.5935/2175-1390.v24e23832.
Our goal was to analyze the literature on the sexuality of people with disabilities. Methodologically, the study consists of an integrative literature review, in which we analyzed 86 scientific articles on the subject published in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, between 2015 and 2021. Data were analyzed in a descriptive way using an instrument called “IR protocol” and subsequently using Bardin’s Content Analysis. As results, we built seven categories, namely: (a) Recognition of the sexuality of people with disabilities; (b) Experience of women living with disabilities; (c) Experience of men living with disabilities; (d) Love relationships; (e) Sexuality, disability and the LGBTpopulation; (f) Sexual services, and (g) Sexual education, which discuss challenges and myths about the sexuality of people living with disabilities. Finally, we conclude that a collective, social and political effort is necessary so that people with disabilities have their right to exercise their sexuality guaranteed.
