People with disabilities must be understood considering the power relations that are articulated in the social, cultural, economic and scientific spheres. This theoretical essay aims to reflect on how Psychology produces understandings about prejudice in relation to people with disabilities, which can be used to think about the production of stereotypes and discrimination directed to the deaf people. A brief review on the topic was carried out, which is presented together with a discussion the different Social Psychology theories on prejudice, aiming to analyze how Psychology contributes to the reproduction or rejection of discriminatory processes against deaf people. As results, two main models were found that base scientific production in the area: the clinical-therapeutic and socio-anthropological s; it was found that perspectives that individualize prejudice make it more difficult to combat; and actions for the elimination of prejudice and discrimination related to the deaf person are discussed.
