Abstract

ZANA, AUGUSTA RODRIGUES DE OLIVEIRA  and  ALVES, CÂNDIDA BEATRIZ. On the presentness of Lígia Assumpção Amaral: interrogating ableism to cripple the “psy” field. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2024, vol.24, e24405.  Epub Aug 23, 2024. ISSN 2175-1390.  https://doi.org/10.5935/2175-1390.v24e24405.

This work revisits the contributions of Lígia Assumpção Amaral, a woman with disabilities, psy professional and teacher. Situating the discussion on how the category “disability” is understood, it is proposed to revisit contributions from Disability Studies and from the crip perspective to interrogate ableist discourses and practices in the “psy” field. In the 1990s, Lígia Amaral already accurately punctuated the production of what she calls the “ideal type” from positions of privilege/domination, which brings into play the category “disability” as a social marker of difference. The resumption of her contributions, always in dialogue with other fields of knowledge, makes it possible to expand the discussion of disability as a social category of analysis. Crippling the “psy” field through the problematization of its articulation from a pathological perspective means sustaining the commitment to confronting ableism in our practices and theorizations as psy professionals.
