Abstract

ABRANTES, STALLONE. Save bira carvalho: interlocutions between the favela and disability. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2024, vol.24, e24454.  Epub Aug 23, 2024. ISSN 2175-1390.  https://doi.org/10.5935/2175-1390.v24e24454.

These writings aim to present an important community leader from a favela in the north of Rio de Janeiro, Bira Carvalho. Bira was a black man, from favela and a wheelchair user. Based on his trajectory, we built reflective clues for articulating the experience in favela and issues of disabilities, understanding the effects produced by totalizing narratives in relation to favela territories and people with disabilities who live there. Throughout the article, the first clue runs through the construction of the idea and concept of disability. The second clue articulates Ableism as structural violence that ends up in the lives of people with disabilities in favela territories. Understanding the interlocution between disabilities and favelas and the urgency of expanding the debate around both issues, reflection in the field of narrative production and subjectivity becomes essential.

Keywords : Favela; Ableism; Narrative; Disability; Subjectivity.
