During 2020, especially in Brazil, the spread of the virus intensified the consequences of existing social inequalities, racism and discrimination. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to discuss the recent effects of updating segregation in the current pandemic context, highlighting the traumatic character of non-dignification and non-recognition of the value of lost, sick and bereaved lives. A literature review was carried out, in which the Lacanian notion of discourses, the Ferenczian approach of trauma and the Freudian proposal of malaise constitute the main categories of analysis. In conclusion, we highlight the resurgence of a process of exclusion and segregation based on the increasingly pressing influence of science and of capitalism in everyday life, a fact that has contributed to the promotion of social discredit, violence and apathy towards the pain of the most vulnerable in an increasingly overwhelming way.
