In this article, we propose a dialogue between Psychoanalytic Theory and Political Science based on a theoretical review around the notion of identification conceived in the former and the concept of party identification conceived in the latter. Firstly, Freud’s and Lacan’s concepts of identification are characterized. Next, the concept of party identification initially developed by the Michigan School is discussed. Finally, we move forward with the ingenious intersection between Psychoanalysis and Politics proposed by Ernesto Laclau, highlighting more precisely his studies on identities and collective identifications. The article aims to contribute to the theoretical development of the two fields of knowledge mentioned, despite the important differences between them. More precisely, the objective was to provide theoretical-conceptual additions to the explanations about partisanship, or anti-partisanship, in Brazil today.
