Abstract

BARRETTO, Leandro Dominguez et al. Therapeutic communities in Brazil: A scope review between 2001 and 2021. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2024, vol.24, e24000.  Epub Aug 26, 2024. ISSN 2175-1390.  https://doi.org/10.5935/2175-1390.v24e24000.

Therapeutic Communities (TC) in Brazil have had a remarkable expansion in the last 20 years. However, rights violations are recorded in these services, pointing to contradictions with the care model established since 2001. In order to map scientific production on the assistance offered by Brazilian TC, we carried out a scope review in following bases: LILACS; INDEXPSI; BDENF; SCIELO; DOAJ; PUBMED; SCOPUS; CAPES Theses Catalog and Latin American Repository Network between 2001 and 2021. results were grouped into categories: General Characteristics; Moral Treatment; Disciplinary Regime; TC and the Brazilian Psychiatric Reform; Inspection and Adequacy; and Treatment Outcomes. The studies bring divergent findings, but describe characteristics of a care model that appears to be at the genesis of the problems already recorded.

Keywords : Therapeutic Community; Mental Health; Substance-Related Disorders; Health Policy; Drugs.
