Abstract

The object of this analisys is the current situation, which combines social and economic crisis with acute processes of political polarization. The starting point for this reflection will be historical and dialectical materialism, highlighting the economic dimension as a fundamental element for understanding permanent class interests and conflicts. However, we emphasize the psychopolitical dimension as equally important for thinking about today’s situation. In this sense, we focus on some concepts that directly dialogue with Salvador Sandoval’s model, such as political effectiveness, beliefs and societal values, as well as other concepts, such as political cynicism. We will conclude with a reflection on how these elements operate in the current situation and manifest themselves in indifference and hatred towards democracy, but also in the processes of political resistance and contestation of the order. To conclude, we recall how important it is to be inspired by Sandoval’s open and democratic spirit so that we can achieve a critical reading of reality.
