Abstract

HERNANDEZ, ALINE REIS CALVO  and  ANDRADE NETO, DEMÉTRIO RIBEIRO DE. Disputed meanings: political memory as a transversal dimension of the political consciousness model. Rev. psicol. polít. Salvador Sandoval’s Political Consciousness Model has been used to analyze political action processes. A dynamic model, it conceives political consciousness as a thought to be made conscious, an active process that allows the attribution of meanings to political events and the interaction between the cultural universe of subjects, their cognitions and affections. In this article, we discuss political memory as a transversal dimension of political consciousness, proposing a confrontation between monument versus craftsmanship, highlighting the tension operated by political memory in relation to official history, questioning its intentions and breaking obscurantism. Finally, we consider that memory acts as a central element in connecting the subject to their political experience, since memory establishes an interface with the dimensions of consciousness, acting as a reservoir of the experiences and perceptions of the subjects. In contrast, political consciousness also has an impact on memory, by directing the ways in which political events are remembered, interpreted and given meaning.
