NASCIMENTO, AMANDA JONAS y OLIVEIRA, RENATA GHISLENI DE. Te humanization of childbirth as a political strategy: challenges for psychology. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2025, vol.25, e24132. Epub 05-Sep-2025. ISSN 2175-1390. https://doi.org/10.5935/2175-1390.v25e24132.
In Brazil, the number of elective cesarean sections has been increasing, exceeding the number recommended by the World Health Organization. Reports of obstetric violence are also increasing. In contrast, the movement for humanized childbirth and discussions about the humanization of care for women and babies are also expanding. The aim of this article is to understand how these mechanisms operate in childbirth scenes and how the movement for humanized childbirth has been established as a line of escape and resistance in the face of this scenario of violence and subjection. Based on the Foucauldian perspective, especially on the concepts of biopolitics and biopower, the article opens ways to think about the ethical-political implications of psychology in this context.
