FREITAS JUNIOR, LAURO FRANCISCO DA SILVA; MAGALHAES, CELINA MARIA COLINO  y  CARVALHO, PAULA DANIELLE PALHETA. Perspectives of elderly people in a penitentiary institution in the Amazon. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2025, vol.25, e25150.  Epub 05-Sep-2025. ISSN 2175-1390.  https://doi.org/10.5935/2175-1390.v25e25150.

This research aimed to identify the perspectives of elderly people deprived of liberty in a prison institution in the Eastern Amazon (Pará). To this end, a descriptive, exploratory, cross-sectional, quantitative-qualitative (mixed) study was carried out. The sample consisted of 22 participants. Data were collected from (a) a Biopsychosocial Questionnaire and (b) a Semi-structured interview. Based on the data collected, it was concluded that the penitentiary system in the state of Pará (Eastern Amazon) presents aspects that can be improved through the creation of public policies that encourage internal activities aimed at the elderly. Furthermore, it was also concluded that the routine and perspectives of the participants are modulated throughout the permanence of conditions of social vulnerability in view of the environmental characteristics and historical and cultural context, conferring greater risk to health, although they present some degree of adaptability and resilience, as verified in the reports.
