This article aims to analyze collective identities of Public Defender´s Office professionals who work with municipal public policy councils in comparison to those who do not. This is a qualitative research, using Content Analysis to process the data and Salvador Sandoval’s Political Consciousness Model as a theoretical framework. Semi-structured interviews were carried out and classified into two groups of eleven professionals each, totaling twenty-two participants: the first, composed of professionals who worked with municipal councils, and the second, of professionals who did not work in this field. Collective identities of public servants and those related to the professional category were identified, with emphasis on the first by the first group of professionals. In both groups, there was no predominant collective identity of activists and little connection with political parties was identified by the professionals, who seek recognition as formal and technical professionals.
