GOMES, Jadson Rodrigo Silva y DAHIA, Sandra Leal de Melo. Disability models: analysis of the perspectives of activists with disabilities in a rights council. Rev. psicol. polít. [online]. 2025, vol.25, e24593. Epub 25-Ago-2025. ISSN 2175-1390. https://doi.org/10.5935/2175-1390.v25e24593.
This study aimed to analyze the congruence between the conception of disability of a group of disability rights counselors from a Brazilian city, and the four most widespread theoretical models of disability in the literature. On the theoretical bases of social psychology, the medical, social, anthropological, and neurodiversity models were considered. The qualitative method of content analysis was used. Thus, from the results, a broad predominance of the social model of disability was observed. There is a need for recognition of the humanity and citizenship of people with disabilities by society, in addition to awareness of the disadvantages imposed on people with disabilities, even though considerable advances are recognized.
