Abstract

CRUZ, Paulo Gil  and  SANTANA-PEREIRA, José. Personalidad e ideología en la era de las redes sociales: relacionando la intolerancia con la ambigüedad y el conservadurismo. Rev. psicol. polít. The influence of personality on individual’s ideology and electoral choices has gained renewed interest with the proliferation of information sources and new data collection methods. Here, we aim to test the relationship between intolerance to ambiguity and political conservatism, as well as their resilience to the impact of news shared on social media). A questionnaire administered to 40 university students found a correlation between the two variables, consistent with the content and context models. In the second study, an experimental questionnaire administered to a sample of 119 adults exposed to one of three sets of news (political-social, apolitical and neutral) found that only individuals exposed to neutral news were found to have a relationship between intolerance of ambiguity and conservatism. Among the most intolerant individuals, conservatism was significantly higher among those exposed to neutral news that among those exposed to apolitical news.

Keywords : Conservatism; Intolerance of ambiguity; Multi-method study; Experimental questionnaire; Social networks.
