Psychology and scientific research do not seem to offer satisfactory answers to many issues regarding the psychological assessment of at risk children and adolescents. This essay aim to present a brief review on adolescence and childhood in the current Brazilian context and the pertinence of the use of psychological instruments and techniques for evaluation in this context, as well as the need of the development and diffusion of new research and methods with these populations.
