GOUVEIA, Valdiney V. et al. Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale: evidences of its factorial validity and reliability. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.1, pp.87-98. ISSN 1677-0471.
This research aimed at contributing to the Brazilian adaptation of the Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale (MCSDS), with mounting evidence for its factorial validity and reliability. Two studies were performed in João Pessoa (Paraíba). In Study 1 participants were 398 undergraduate students, mainly females (51.5%), with a mean age of 21.4 years. In Study 2 participants were 313 undergraduate students, mainly females (50.8%), with a mean age of 21.8 years. Participants answered the MCSDS and demographic questions in both studies. In the first study, a Principal Component analysis indicated a 20-item unidimensional structure (MCSDS-20), accounting for 13% of the total variance (KR20 = .76). In the second study, a confirmatory factor analysis revealed as acceptable a one-factor model (AGFI = .90, and RMSEA = .05) for the MCSDS-20, with reliability (KR20) of .75. It was concluded this version can be adequately used for research in the context where it was adapted.
