In this paper we start with some considerations about the psychological assessment process and we describe the main advantages of the different types of personality assessment instruments, behaviour scales, questionnaires and inventories and projective methods. After that, it will be discussed the complementarity of the different personality assessment methods. In the next topic we will discuss about the possibility of conducting both nomothetic and idiographic interpretations based on the results of several psychological tests, and we present some cautions about making idiographic interpretations. The manuscript finishes with the presentation of four clinical vignettes which illustrate a qualitative / idiographic interpretation using different psychological tests and with a brief conclusion
