Abstract

CARDOSO, Hugo Ferrari; OLIVEIRA, Tatiele Souza de; SILVA, Wenia Alves da  and  ARAUJO, Thiago Machado de. Social Support Perception Scale at Work: psychometric study in public safety. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2023, vol.22, n.3, pp.257-264.  Epub Nov 29, 2024. ISSN 1677-0471.  https://doi.org/10.15689/ap.2023.2203.24733.03.

The study aimed to obtain evidence based on the internal structure of the Social Support Perception Scale at Work (EPSST) for the context of public security. The study included 9,591 public security agents from different corporations in all federative units of Brazil. Most participants (80.1%) were male (f=8,156), with a mean age of 40 years (SD = 7.69) and mean length of service at the institution of 14 years (SD=8.14). Factorials analysis was performed to verify the factorial structure of the scale, and the internal consistency was estimated. The results indicated a three-factor structure (informational social support; emotional social support; instrumental or material social support), items with factor loadings above .30, adequate fit indices, and reliability estimates with satisfactory values for all factors. It was concluded that the EPSST presents adequate psychometric qualities for the public security context.
