In Brazil, the adoption process requires judicial qualification, including a psychological assessment. This study describes and compares the personality characteristics of women legally qualified to adopt or who had already become adoptive mothers, with those of biological mothers. The participants were 60 female volunteers (State of São Paulo, Brazil), aged 30-50, in a marital union, with high school level education. Of these, 40 were infertile and did not have biological children, and 20 were biological mothers. They completed an individual battery of psychological assessment instruments covering personality, with the focus of this study on the Rorschach Method (Paris School). The results were analyzed descriptively and inferentially, revealing similarity in the indicators, with performance compatible with the normative standard for Brazilian adults. The findings demonstrated that women waiting to adopt or who were adoptive mothers had adequate psychodynamic resources, as expected of prospective adopters, suggesting ecological validity for the psychological assessment process conducted in the judicial context.
