Abstract

PALOSKI, Luis Henrique; MORET-TATAY, Carmen; IRIGARAY, Tatiana Quarti  and  OLIVEIRA, Camila Rosa de. Evidence of validity for the Cognitive Reserve Scale in older adults. Aval. psicol. This study aimed to investigate evidence of validity for the Cognitive Reserve Scale (CRS) using a sample of Brazilian older adults. The sample consisted of 206 older adults who, in addition to the CRS, completed a sociodemographic data form, the Mini-Mental State Examination, the Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination-Revised, the Five-Digit Test, the Dysexecutive Questionnaire and the short version of the Depression Scale Geriatric. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Spearman’s correlation, and multiple linear regression. The CRS factor scores were significantly associated with age, education, family income, memory, executive functions, language, visuoperceptive skills, and depressive symptoms. Lifelong involvement in activities related to continued education, activities of daily living, and hobbies/pastimes were predictors for higher cognitive levels and reduced depressive symptoms. Accordingly, the CRS proved to be a suitable instrument for measuring cognitive reserve in older adults.
