Abstract

FERREIRA, Heloísa Gonçalves. Confirmatory Factor Analysis of the OPPES-BR. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2024, vol.23, n.1, pp.35-44.  Epub Dec 02, 2024. ISSN 1677-0471.  https://doi.org/10.15689/ap.2024.2301.22678.04.

The OPPES-BR assesses the practice of pleasant events (PPE) in older adults. The aim was to refine the scale to develop a brief version with evidence of internal validity, through the performance of confirmatory factor analyses and multigroup confirmatory factor analysis (MGCFA) by gender. The OPPES-BR was administered to 282 cognitively unimpaired community-dwelling older adults from Minas Gerais and São Paulo states. A four-factor structure with 30 items and satisfactory fit indices (χ2/df=1.29; CFI=.958; TLI = .954; RMSEA (90% CI) = .033 (.041–.084)) was identified, however, with non-invariant items for men and women. The MGCFA identified an invariant factorial structure with 25 items, however, poorer fit indices. In conclusion, the 30-item version of the OPPES-BR provides evidence of validity for use in psychological assessment contexts, though non-invariant items should be considered to establish less biased comparisons between men and women regarding PPE.
