Divorce causes changes in the family life. With marital breakups, children often experience interparental conflict, which can cause damage to their mental health. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the emotional state of children of divorced parents exposed to different indices of interparental conflict. The sample consisted of 27 children aged between seven and 11 years, most of them female. The Children’s Perception of Interparental Conflict Scale was used to divide the sample into groups: low, medium, and high exposure to interparental conflict. The emotional state was assessed through Pfister’s Colored Pyramids Test using the color selection construct. The results showed that children exposed to high levels of interparental conflict may present excessive emotional control, rigidity, and repression of feelings in situations with a lot of affective stimulation. Accordingly, it was concluded that interparental conflict can harm children’s emotional states.
