Abstract

CORDEIRO, Andriely dos Santos  and  MINERVINO, Carla Alexandra da Silva Moita. Impact of Social Isolation Caused by Covid-19 on Children's Executive Functions. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2024, vol.23, n.3, pp.287-294.  Epub Dec 02, 2024. ISSN 1677-0471.  https://doi.org/10.15689/ap.2024.2303.03.

This study aimed to analyze differences in children’s executive functions before and during social isolation. A total of 338 parents/ guardians of children aged between six and 11 years ( M =8.42; SD =0.91) participated. Data collection was conducted digitally, using a demographic questionnaire and the Story Scale to assess children’s executive functions. The results revealed that the children experienced greater difficulty in executive functions during social isolation compared to before isolation. Differences in executive functioning were identified based on gender, age, school year and the presence or absence of learning difficulties. It is crucial for psychologists to be aware of the cognitive aspects of childhood in the post-pandemic period. During psychological assessment, the emergence of difficulties in executive functioning should be analyzed, as these issues may have arisen during the isolation period.
