CATALDO, Quésia Fernandes et al. Diagnosis of Personality Disorder: Considerations regarding the PID-5 and E-TRAP. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2024, vol.23, n.3, pp.338-342.  Epub 02-Dez-2024. ISSN 1677-0471.  https://doi.org/10.15689/ap.2024.2303.08.

Psychology has extensively discussed personality theories over the past 50 years. Personality disorders appear in all versions of the DSM and their diagnosis is often challenging. Since the DSM-5, in addition to the categorical diagnostic model, an alternative model that includes a dimensional assessment has been introduced. Currently tools are available to assist in these diagnoses, however, different methods can yield divergent results. The aim of this note is to present considerations regarding two tools used in personality assessment: the PID-5 and the E-TRAP. Their characteristics, indications for use, validity evidence, and potential biases and limitations were examined. The recommendation of combining methods in evaluations is suggested, as this enhances the data obtained, both quantitatively and qualitatively. The analysis and integration of the information collected are professional skills that must be developed and refined, and the study of the foundations of the diagnostic models is essential.
