Resumen

LINS, Taiane et al. Validation of the Coping with Children’s Negative Emotions Scale for Brazilian Parents. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2024, vol.23, n.4, pp.394-404.  Epub 16-Dic-2024. ISSN 1677-0471.  https://doi.org/10.15689/ap.2024.2304.03.

This study examined the evidence of validity for the internal structure of the Brazilian version of the Coping with Children’s Negative Emotions Scale (CCNES). Participants were 163 mothers of preschoolers and 149 mothers of schoolchildren. Participants completed the Brazilian version of the CCNES and a Sociodemographic Questionnaire. The results revealed adequate factorability, good precision, and replicability indices, as well as differences in the number of factors between preschoolers and schoolchildren. For the preschoolers, three factors were identified (non-supportive reactions; emotion-focused and problem-focused reactions; and expressive encouragement), while for the schoolchildren, two factors emerged (non-supportive reactions and supportive reactions). Developmental differences between groups, such as schoolchildren’s larger verbal repertoire and socio-cultural and contextual aspects, can explain the factorial structure of this version of the CCNES and should be considered in cultural adaptation studies.
