Abstract

Psychometric Properties of the Passion and Persistence Scales for Sports Coaches. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2025, vol.24, e23941.  Epub June 09, 2025. This study examined the psychometric properties of the Passion for Work Scale and the Rigid and Flexible Persistence Scale in a sample of sports coaches. The sample included 171 coaches of both sexes, with 69.6% being male. Analyses included Exploratory Factor Analysis, Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega coefficients, and Pearson’s correlation. The findings supported a twofactor model for both scales. The harmonious and obsessive passion factors of the Passion for Work Scale explained 72.6% of the variance, while the rigid and flexible persistence factors of the Persistence Scale explained 70.0%. Both scales demonstrated strong reliability indicators. The results align with the theoretical framework of the dualistic model of passion and persistence, and the observed relationship between the variables provides initial evidence of validity for these instruments within a sample of Brazilian sports coaches.
