SOUZA, Gustavo Henrique Silva de et al. Evidence of Validity based on Internal Structure of the Brazilian Jeitinho Behavior Inventory (BJBI). Aval. psicol. [online]. 2025, vol.24, e24212. Epub 15-Set-2025. ISSN 1677-0471. https://doi.org/10.15689/ap.2025.24.e24212.
The need to measure behaviors associated with the Brazilian jeitinho (or Brazilian way, referring to, for example, doing favors, interpersonal empathy, circumventing social norms, and trickery) has become an emerging focus in several studies. This study aimed to provide evidence of the psychometric quality of the Brazilian Jeitinho Behavior Inventory (BJBI), developed by Souza et al. (2022), by evaluating validity based on internal structure. A total of485 Brazilian participants (68.7% male, mean age of 32 years) from the state of Minas Gerais completed the BJBI and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the BJBI’s bifactorial model fits the data (χ2/df=1.91; GFI=0.97; CFI = 0.90; TLI=0.91; RMSEA=0.04). The tested model corroborates the original structure, revealing two factors: 1. Illegal and Antisocial Advantages and 2. Efficiency through Informality. Internal consistency tests for this structure demonstrated excellent reliability for Factor 1, while Factor 2 showed moderate internal consistency, suggesting a potential need to reduce the number of items in the BJBI. The findings suggest that the BJBI is a valid tool for predicting behaviors related to the Brazilian jeitinho, expanding possibilities for the identification and mapping of empirical evidence regarding this phenomenon.
