Racial microaggressions are subtle statements and behaviors directed toward people of color that convey derogatory messages. This study aimed to adapt and examine the initial psychometric properties of the racial and Ethnic Microaggressions Scale (REMS45) for the Black population in Brazil. A total of 482 participants, all self-identified as Black (Black and mixed), over 18 years of age, of different genders and social classes, took part in the study. The results demonstrated that the replicated scale, based on the original North American six-factor structure, demonstrated high reliability and proved to be suitable for measuring racial microaggressions in the Brazilian context. The instrument also showed consistency across data collection methods (in-person and online). Additionally, evidence of external validity was found, with associations observed between the domains of racial microaggressions and participants’ income and education levels. These findings support the successful adaptation of the scale and establish a solid psychometric foundation for future psychosocial research and assessment on this topic.
