Abstract

SOUZA, Luana Elayne Cunha de et al. Reduced Ambivalent Sexism Inventory: Evidence of Psychometric Parameters in the Brazilian Context. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2025, vol.24, n.spe1, e25482.  Epub Sep 05, 2025. ISSN 1677-0471.  https://doi.org/10.15689/ap.2025.24.e25482.

The theory of ambivalent sexism postulates that attitudes towards women are ambivalent and manifest in two dimensions: hostile sexism (HS) and benevolent sexism (BS). This study aimed to adapt the reduced version of the Ambivalent Sexism Inventory to the Brazilian context, gathering evidence of validity and reliability. The participants were 773 individuals aged between 18 and 71 (M=30.41; SD=9.27). A confirmatory factor analysis indicated satisfactory fit indices. Model invariance by gender was confirmed. The BS (α=.75) and HS (α=.90) factors demonstrated adequate internal consistency. An item response theory analysis examined the scale’s quality in terms of discrimination, agreement difficulty levels, and item information. These results provide evidence of adequate psychometric parameters, supporting the use of the measure in future research on sexism in Brazil.

Keywords : sexism; prejudice; gender; measure; instrument.
