REINELL, Roberta Raíza; GUERRA, Valeschka Martins e MARCHI, Barbara Frigini De. Initial psychometric properties of the Flow State Scale BR for elderly people. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2025, vol.24, n.spe1, e25590. Epub 05-Set-2025. ISSN 1677-0471. https://doi.org/10.15689/ap.2025.24.e25590.
Flow refers to a state of consciousness in which an individual becomes deeply focused and engaged in a challenging activity. This study aimed to evaluate whether the Brazilian version of the Flow State Scale (FSS-BR) maintains its psychometric properties in a sample of Brazilian older adults. The sample included 208 participants, aged 60 to 75 years, who completed the questionnaire through a hybrid data collection process. An initial confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) revealed that the factors “Balance between challenges and skills” and “Action-awareness fusion” were not reliable, according to the Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega coefficients. A second CFA, excluding these two factors, yielded good fit indices. Consequently, the scale was refined to include seven factors and 22 items. This validation contributes to the Positive Psychology movement and the field of aging studies, particularly considering the scarcity of psychological instruments specifically developed to assess older adults.
