ARNOUD, Thaís de Castro Jury et al. Escala de Experiências Anti-Bissexualidade (ABES): Investigação da Validade Psicométrica no Contexto Brasileiro. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2025, vol.24, n.spe1, e25602. Epub 05-Set-2025. ISSN 1677-0471. https://doi.org/10.15689/ap.2025.24.e25602.
This study aimed to culturally adapt the Anti-Bisexual Experiences Scale (ABES) for the Brazilian context and assess its psychometric validity in a sample of bisexual individuals. The ABES is widely used internationally to measure experiences of binegativity, reflecting stigma and discrimination faced by bisexual individuals. The adaptation process followed rigorous procedures, including translation, synthesis, expert evaluation, target audience assessment, back-translation, and a pilot study. The factor structure of the Brazilian version was examined using Exploratory Graph Analysis (EGA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), confirming a three-factor structure: Sexual Orientation Instability, Interpersonal Hostility, and Sexual Irresponsibility. The Brazilian version demonstrated excellent internal consistency (α=.91 to .95; ω=.86 to .93) and evidence of external validity, showing that experiences of anti-bisexuality are positively associated with stigmatization and symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress. The ABES-Brazil emerges as a valid and reliable tool for investigating experiences of binegativity in the Brazilian context.
