Abstract

BARROS, Leonardo de Oliveira. Psychological Assessment and Ethnic-Racial Issues: Antiracist Proposals for the Brazilian Context. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2025, vol.24, n.spe1, e25436.  Epub Sep 05, 2025. ISSN 1677-0471.  https://doi.org/10.15689/ap.2025.24.e25436.

This theoretical-critical essay aims to propose guidelines for an anti-racist approach within the field of Psychological Assessment. The proposal is grounded in the need to uphold the integrity of the human person and to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in assessment practices. The essay begins by questioning the adequacy of the concept of race for human beings and contextualizes how psychological measurement has historically been rooted in racist practices. It then discusses how ethno-racial aspects are understood in the Brazilian context and the damage and barriers resulting from the racialization of the population. Finally, the essay outlines how structural racism is perpetuated within Psychological Assessment and presents strategies to address the issue in education, research, instrument development, and assessment practices. These discussions contribute to reducing inequalities in the development and use of psychological instruments.

Keywords : diversity; race; social justice.
