Psychological assessment, a fundamental area of professional practice in Psychology, supports the understanding and care of individuals with diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. Research and services must prioritize ethical principles, with a focus on social justice and human rights. This article addresses psychological assessment in the context of sexual and gender diversity, tracing the historical pathologization of these identities and examining the psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of inclusion. It discusses key ethical considerations for professional practice and scientific research, aiming to promote social justice and human dignity. Finally, it identifies barriers and facilitators to conducting psychological assessments that are aligned with human rights in this context.
