The article presents findings concerning a study that aims to understand farmers' suicide existential aspects from a phenomenological standpoint. It is based on a previous research whose findings featured high suicide rates between poor farmers in Rio Grande do Norte countryside. Twenty people from the five cities with highest suicide rates in Brazilian state Rio Grande do Norte were interviewed. The subjects are relatives and friends of suicide victims whose interviews were recorded and transcribed in narrative form. Based on German philosopher Martin Heidegger's Existential Analytic, conclusions pointed to limits imposed upon the possibilities inherent in being-in-the-world and the burden of an unfulfilled being
