GONDIM, Liberalina Santos de Souza; BISPO, Pétala Naiane Moraes  e  MACEDO, Shirley Vieira de Melo. Psychologist’s work at the unified public health system in Petrolina-PE and Juazeiro-BA: a phenomenological study. Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2018, vol.24, n.2, pp.524-540. ISSN 1677-1168.  https://doi.org/10.5752/P.1678-9563.2018v24n2p524-540.

This research aimed to investigate psychologists’ occupational experiences at public health care units in the cities of Petrolina-PE and Juazeiro- BA. Such discussion was necessary due to the importance of work in contemporary society and the challenges faced by professionals on duty since the implementation of the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) (Unified Public Health System) in Brazil. It is a phenomenological research, in which five psychologist were interviewed individually, using a triggering question as main tool. The interviews were analyzed focusing on the interviewees’ perceptions of their experiences. The results showed that factors such as working conditions, professional recognition, relationship within the work team and multiple-task jobs interfere in the health-disease process at work, leading to a conflictive experience between motivation and demotivation. Besides that, strategies for the maintenance of health were identified, which were seen as a possibility of reframing suffering experiences caused by work load.
