Child adoption is a protective measure for infants whose life stories carry varioussigns of victimization. Seeking to know what the scientific literature has revealed about risk factors and protection involving child psychopathology and parental care in adoptive affiliations, a research with indexed articles was made in Scielo, Lilacs, PsycInfo and PubMed databases, using the terms "adoptive parents" and "child psychopathology". It was confirmed the importance of appropriate selection process, psychological preparation and counseling for adoptive parents, which assure infants insertion in an emotionally appropriate environment for their protection.
