The purpose of this article is to point out the different aspects of the emotional impact that surgery can have, as well as those that are typically experienced. The article also suggests an alternative way to minimize these impacts. The strategy is to inform patients as a way of psychological preparation before surgery so that patients may be prepared to better face the surgical event
