The objectives of this paper were to identify and analyze the national scientific research on chronic renal failure and the prospect of the Health Psychologist. To this end, a search of the bases proceeded: BVS, Scientific Electronic Library Online, Google Scholar, Books and Bank of CAPES theses. The descriptors used were: chronic renal failure, hospital psychology, hemodialysis. Initially no articles were found. The bench CAPES theses were found 282 records, five master theses, an article and a doctoral dissertation. The results found six master theses were selected. The results allowed a reflection on the impact of the disease/treatment. It was found that the psychologist together with a multidisciplinary team and family support are the basis for the strengthening and restructuring of the patient, assisting in coping the disease.
