The symbol consists of a word or image that implies something beyond its meaning manifest and immediate. Older people may use symbols as an attempt to provide a new meaning their distress from aging, and the changes in all aspects of their life. The objective of this paper was to analyze the use of symbols as a way of expression for the elaboration of conflicts arising from discourse in the elderly patient with chronic diseases under home care. In the results it was possible to notice that the patient manifests intensely through symbols from the first visit, however, with therapeutic bond and psychotherapy, it was possible to show their psychic suffering concretely, such as fear of death and its loss of functionality. It was concluded that the patient used the symbols as a form of expression to obtain tampering conflicts.
