CAVALCANTE, Isadora Tostes e GOBBI, Celeste Imaculada Conceição. THE CANDENCY OF PSYCHIC TRAUMA IN THE BURNED CLINIC: FROM BURNING TO ABUSE. Psicol. hosp. (São Paulo) [online]. 2020, vol.18, n.1, pp.41-67. Epub 30-Jun-2025. ISSN 2175-3547. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15489596.
In the Burn Service, acute reactions to stress are frequent and the accumulation of traumatic situations and traumas that occurred in childhood is related to the worsening of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In one victimized patient intense reactions were observed, which persisted during hospitalization and after discharge. During psychological consultations, a trauma prior to the burn, which occurred in adolescence, was remembered. This case study aimed to relate a previous traumatic experience with the current psychopathological symptoms presented by a patient who suffered burns from chemical combustion. The method was qualitative and the material was collected from medical records, psychotherapy visits, discussions of clinical supervision and was interpreted through Freudian psychoanalytic theory. It was concluded that a previous traumatic experience accentuated the current psychopathological symptoms and, when re-signified, provided a decrease in PTSD symptoms.
