LIMA, Estefane Firmino de Oliveira  e  SIQUEIRA, Alessandra Cansanção de. THE HUMAN AGING PROCESS FOR HOSPITAL COMPANIONS OF ELDERLY PEOPLE. Psicol. hosp. (São Paulo) [online]. 2021, vol.19, n.1, pp.21-35.  Epub 30-Jun-2025. ISSN 2175-3547.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15545877.

The phenomenon of population aging has several implications for governments, societies and families. The objective of this study was to analyze the perception of companions of a university hospital about aging. A semi- structured interview was conducted with 11 caregivers of elderly people hospitalized. Nine interviewees were female and two were male, with a mean age of 39 years. It was possible to observe that the perception about aging explains aging as a natural process of life. The way of caring for an elderly person was characterized by actions performed with love, care and patience. As for becoming elderly, the interviewees highlighted: insecurities, desires for quality of life and to be taken care of by their children. The disregard of the socio-historical context was observed, as well as the responsibility of the woman for the care. With the aging of the population, investigations are needed that seek contributions to professional practice in the various areas of health.
