DIONISIO, Eliane R. Lucânia; ARAUJO FILHO, Gerardo M. de  y  VALERIO, Nelson I.. LIFE SKILLS TRAINING AND MENTAL HEALTH ON HEALTH PROFESSIONALS. Psicol. hosp. (São Paulo) [online]. 2023, vol.21, n.1, pp.56-78.  Epub 29-Ago-2025. ISSN 2175-3547.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.16413341.

Work plays a central role in human life and should be experienced with satisfaction and not with diseases. Mental disorders can cause harm to personal, social, and work life. Therefore, programs aimed at Life Skills Training (THV) can contribute to the prevention of mental health.

Objective:

To evaluate the impact of THV on mental health (anxiety, depression, and stress) and on improving the life skills of workers in a highly complex hospital.

Method:

This is a study with a quasi-experimental, interventional design, with assessment measures carried out before and after the THV. Employees from different professions signed up to participate in the research. The following were used as assessment instruments: 1) Protocol with sociodemographic information and health/disease conditions; 2) Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale - HADS; 3) Lipp Stress Symptom Inventory and 4) Life Skills Scale - EHV. Skills training was carried out in groups; nine meetings, weekly, lasting one hour and 30 minutes, with strategies verified in the literature. Statistical analyses were performed using Fisher’s and Friedman’s exact tests, with a significance level of p≤0.05.

Results:

Professionals aged between 30 and 57 years have participated, predominantly, female nurses. Symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress, and life skills showed significant improvement.

Conclusion:

A positive impact of the THV intervention on mental health as well as improvement of the investigated skills were observed.
