Abstract

DUMONT, Adilson  and  PRETO, Édison Luis de Oliveira. The philosophical view of the body. Escritos educ. [online]. 2005, vol.4, n.2, pp.7-11. ISSN 1677-9843.

Accounting for the way human body is regarded in "modern times", it is a must to reflect upon such corporeity on the grounds of the Greek-Roman philosophical influence, the transition from the Hellenic-Christian world - modern approaches as emancipated genesis of current corporeity. The subjective perception of the body in the third millennium possesses, as genesis, two sources going along with the conception of human being: the idealistic approach and the materialistic trend. It is our aim, in this study, to reflect upon the building and development of such corporeity through the context of a globalized world where the body is perceived as a "mechanized and marketable product". This brief study intends to guide us throughout the historical understanding shaped on the occidental civilization and coming into light in the "modern times", a loss of identity due to technological possibilities, as well as, human alienation.

Keywords : Physis; Human corporeity; Platonism; Psycho-physic dualism; Philosophy.
