Abstract

SILVA, Lília Bittencourt; GONDIM, Sônia Maria Guedes; SOUSA, Yuri Sá Oliveira  and  SIMOES, Ana Célia Araújo. Maternity and work of primiparous women: from pregnancy to return to work. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.1, pp.57-69.  Epub Oct 28, 2024. ISSN 1984-7270.  https://doi.org/10.26707/1984-7270/2023v24n0106.

This study aimed to analyze changes in professional expectations, situations at work of affective value, conflicts, and positive work-family interfaces of workers who became first-time mothers. The method used was a qualitative and longitudinal design. Twelve workers were interviewed in three moments: pregnancy, maternity leave and return to work. The lexical analysis was developed by the program IRaMuTeQ. We concluded that there were changes in participants’ narratives over the course of three assessment points. During pregnancy, work situations and their affective aspects were central. Upon returning to work, the focus was on work-family conflicts. The positive work-family interfaces did not change over time, signaling the mutual influence of these two spheres in handling the dual mother-worker role.

Keywords : work; motherhood; longitudinal studies; qualitative research.
