Abstract

MELO-SILVA, Lucy Leal; LASSSANCE, Maria Célia Pacheco; OLIVEIRA, Marina Cardoso de  and  BARROS, Leonardo de Oliveira. Competencies for career and vocational guidance in Brazil: self-assessment and relevance. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.2, pp.279-293.  Epub Oct 25, 2024. ISSN 1984-7270.  https://doi.org/10.26707/1984-7270/2023v24n0214.

The aim of this study was to identify how Brazilian career professionals self-assess their performance in relation to a set of competencies, and how they perceive the relevance of each competency to their practice. The participants were 74 career professionals who answered a questionnaire on self-assessment and relevance to a list of core competencies (required of all professionals) and specialized competencies (for specific contexts). The data was subjected to descriptive and inferential statistics. The results show significant differences between the paired means, indicating a greater perception of the relevance of the competences than the degree of capacity developed for both core and specialized competences. In addition, career specialists showed a higher level of competencies than mentors and professional advisors.

Keywords : competence; professional competences; vocational guidance; career guidance.
