Dropping out of higher education is considered a public issue. Based on that, this research aimed to explore the dimensions of career adaptability - control, curiosity, confidence and concern - in university students intending to drop out of their courses, through a qualitative approach. Twenty guests participated (average age = 25 years; biological sex = 55% male). The results demonstrated that the decision to drop out was strongly influenced by previous experiences in higher education, which developed greater confidence in one's own professional interests and market possibilities. For those who wanted to leave without a defined project, adaptability had poor representation in the discourse. Social indicators such as race and gender can be explored in future research.
