Abstract

AMBIEL, Rodolfo Augusto Matteo; COSTA, Lorena Rodrigues da; CARVALHO, Luara  and  RIBEIRO, Rafaella Marcelino. Reasons for Dropout and Personality as Predictors of Career Indecision. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2025, vol.26, n.1, pp.71-82.  Epub July 11, 2025. ISSN 1984-7270.  https://doi.org/10.26707/1984-7270/2025v26n0106.

Career indecision is a challenge among university students, often influenced by individual and contextual factors. This study analyzed the extent to which reasons for dropout and personality traits explain career indecision profiles. A total of 254 university students participated (78% women; average age of 24 years; 87% from private institutions). Through correlation and regression analyses, career-related and interpersonal reasons were identified as predictors of indecision. Among the personality traits, conscientiousness and extraversion negatively explained dimensions of indecision, while neuroticism and agreeableness explained them positively. The results are expected to contribute to the understanding of the phenomenon, suggesting institutional improvements.

Keywords : career; dropout; personality; undergraduate students.
