Abstract

SANTANA, Lhaís Alves de Souza Pereira; FERNANDES, Sônia Regina Pereira  and  CARNEIRO, Laila Leite. Characteristics of work, coping and well-being in intensive care units. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2025, vol.26, n.1, pp.105-115.  Epub July 11, 2025. ISSN 1984-7270.  https://doi.org/10.26707/1984-7270/2025v26n0109.

The well-being of Intensive Care Unit workers must be investigated. This qualitative study sought to characterize the well-being at work (WBW) of these professionals, identifying job demands and resources, as well as the coping strategies used by them that reverberate in their well-being. The thematic analysis of the data - obtained through semi-structured interviews (n = 35) - indicated that the participants frequently experience positive affects related to work, that support resources and demands inherent to work are important to them, and that control coping was the most used coping strategy. It is concluded that the availability of resources for professionals to deal with demands and assistance for the use of adaptive coping can make WBW viable.
